I work with many judges in many federal courts all over the Southeast, and this is the worst of them inasmuch as temperament. Makes it a habit of belittling those who request a clarification or a repetition (he mumbles). Unfortunate behavior in one who seems to be a nice person off the bench. Can't figure him out.

Reversed again by 6th Circuit on police officer immunity case. (Nos. 07-5168/5215) This judge refused to grant immunity to officers being assaulted by defendant during traffic stop. Because the district court did not identify what facts it found in dispute when it denied Officer Causey qualified immunity, we have to engage in “a cumbersome review of the record to determine what facts the district court, in the light most favorable to the nonmoving party, likely assumed.”

An otherwise intelligent judge marred by a terrible judicial temperment. Intensely dislikes some lawyers and shows it, even if the jury is present. Even lawyers that he doesn't hate live in fear of his emotional outbursts.
