Litigant

Comment #: 22171
Rating:2.0
Comments:
Manheim dismissed an important civil matter involving a major public policy issue where a special interest group with local ties was allegedly harming competition and the American homeowner. Despite reams of evidence and the untenable position of defendants, Tunheim dismissed the case for lack of evidence / no triable issue of fact, depriving plaintiff a fair trial.

Comments:
Very smart judge and a decent trial judge (except that the trial day always starts later than announced). He usually gets it right on rulings, but he does take his time. When he does rule, he may hesitate to make the tough call (e.g. granting full summary judgment), even if the law and facts mandate that). He tends to prefer to let the case proceed, even if that means he will dispose of it later. As a result, he is considered a bit friendlier to plaintiffs than to defendants. But overall, he is a good fair judge.

Comments:
This judge takes his time but demonstrates the best understanding of the law of all judges in this District. He appears to believe that a judge's role is that of referee, not jury. Contrary to the wrong-headed comments regarding this judge's supposed ambition, he is committed to the law and displays the utmost respect for all counsel. He deserves to be elevated, but I will be happy if he continues to be the excellent district judge that he is.

Did a great job on C-SPAN defending the untenable position of banning cameras in the courts.

Comments:
His obviously high IQ is exceeded only by his higher GQ persona. Way too politically ambitious - just waiting in the wings for Judge Murphy to take senior status and the Dems to win so his anointment can be made official.

If he spent more time on rulings and less time promoting himself he would be a much better judge.

His GQ aura is exceeded only by his singleminded passion and self-promotion to get on the Circuit.
