Magistrate Ghandi -- who bristles at being called "magistrate" -- is entirely caught up with his apparent power. He was notoriously late to a hearing, disrespectful of clients and client representatives at settlement discussions, and about as arrogant as one individual could be.

This is a reflexively pro-government judge with very limited real practice background before reaching the bench. He comes from the portion of the Indian community that believes power is usually right. He won't stand up to the government if they challenge him; they know he'll fold if enough pressure is put upon him.

This judge is quite arrogant, and probably driven by the need to mask insecurities. I agree with the comments below about him being like a spoiled child who didn't properly earn his title. Avoid at all costs.

Judge Gandhi was assigned to us in a settlement conference by one of the district judges. It was a very long, very hard-fought commercial litigation matter that contained numerous complexities on liability, damages and the technological underpinnings of the case.

He did a fantastic job to get the case resolved. He rolled up his sleeves and came to understand the technology well enough to be able to judge the merits of both sides arguments. He has a very affable personality in this context but was fully committed to the settlement process and got the job done.

I and my client will remain in his debt.

He was assigned to a civil rights case I had. One of the best judges -- district or magistrate -- in the Central District. He was fair, did not let defense or their clients get away with the typical discovery shenanigans they often pull and he set the tone early on that such conduct would not do in his court. I say this even though at one point he slammed me as well on a discovery issue. But he was fair -- which is what you want at the end of the day. If you represent Plaintiffs you will breathe a sigh of relief that the Central District has a judge that actually acts like a judge and not like a second chair for the government and their lawyers. A pleasure to appear before.

My experience with Judge Gandhi was very positive; he served as a settlement officer on a heavily-litigated and complicated case and got the parties to settle where first-rate private mediators had failed. He is very sharp and an extremely hard worker. I know what others are referring to when they complain about his temperament, but I found his needling and "insolence" funny and frankly refreshing. Those who are thin-skinned or self-serious will not like Judge Gandhi, but I think he's a breath of fresh air.

I thoroughly agree with the other comments (except the one about his being a good settlement officer). He is arrogant, superior, insolent and condescending, especially when counsel do not see things his way. He has a limited understanding of state law in diversity cases, but unfortunately, doesn't recognize that particular shortcoming. If the defendant's settlement offer is lower than he would like, he plays the "divide and conquer game," trying to pit the client against the carrier and both against the attorney, which leaves a bad taste in everyone's mouth. My two cents: if he is assigned to conduct a settlement conference, pay the bucks to get a decent private mediator instead. You and your client won't regret it!

Experience with him limited to a settlement conference. He was rude, very obnoxious, condescending, misogynistic (referred to another atty and I as "ladies") and presumptive, in that he assumed we fit every negative stereotype for plaintiff's attys without any factual basis for doing so. He does seem to like flattery, so if you are stuck with him, go that route and you will do ok. Though he may behave in a casual, way and take license with you, and he seem almost comedic in his insults/jibes toward you, don't respond in kind, as doing so may result in sactions. Lacks a dignified judicial demeanor - reminds me of a snotty spoiled child whose been given more power than he deserves.

Arrogant, immature, poorly-educated, egotistical, inexperienced, petty, and just an all around jerk. A pity he was made a judicial officer.

Judicial temperament? Sure, if by temperament you mean arrogant, rude, misogynistic, condescending, vitriolic, short fused and overwrought. He needs to get over himself and do a whole lot of growing, both as a judicial officer and as an adult.
Avoid like the plague.

Is a good settlement officer. Is not afraid to hand out sanctions if people don't cooperate.

This magistrate denies homeowners due process; blatantly ignores banks refusal to defend their statements then allows them to change the whole lawsuit from what the plaintiff is pleading to one which they have made with no pleadings at all; total bias unabashedly brazen and with no ethics; claims to be writing a book on securitization but has zero working knowledge of the topic. these magistrates and judges who do not want to see the homeowners in court before them are cowardly and hiding behind what appears to be a conspiracy to help defraud homeowners of their property. this is like Nazi Germany,
