Civil Litigation - Private

Rating:4.3
Comments:
I agree with what has been said he determines the winner early then appears to be fair, and writes his opinion in support of his winner. He will go as far as ignoring precedent in the circuit and rely on i.e., 9th circuit case.

Decides the winner early on and all subsequent rulings reflect that. He doesn't want to hear from the person he has decided is the loser. Obviously no trial experience in private practice. Seems to assume that everyone is as well off financially as he is.

Judge Feinerman has been fair, thorough, and competent in the cases that I have had before him. He seems even-keeled and highly intelligent. Overall, a good judge.

Comments:
Judge Feinerman believes himself to be one of the better judges in the Northern District, but he is not. He is arrogant in his demeanor as well as his rulings from the bench. He lacks experience in day-to-day civil litigation at the trial level. His discovery rulings show that he was mostly an appellate lawyer prior to taking the bench. He could avoid most of these problems if he simply referred discovery to the magistrate judges. His rulings from the bench are rambling, with no connection to established case law. He forgets that other judges have ruled on these issues before him. He shows a strong bias for one side; once he has made up his mind he believes that party. His was obviously a political appointment, as his father-in-law is Herb Kohl, the millionaire former senator from Wisconsin.

Not a good judge. He's fairly new to the bench, but thinks he's brilliant. He makes up his mind before hearing from the attorneys and shows bias toward the side he has chosen to win. He does all this while attempting to show that he is fair, but he's far from that. He's got a very biting and nasty side to him, though it's all delivered with a smile/smirk that I'm sure he thinks makes him seem like the good guy. But that's only if you haven't been paying attention.

My case is still ongoing, but Judge Feinerman has been one of the most professional, informed, and even-handed judges I have dealt with in quite a while. He anticipates issues before they come up and offers his own suggestions to streamline potential problems even before the arise. Even when he has ruled against my client on some preliminary issues, I cannot fault his logic.

I think I might be his first case. I thought Obama would have been an advantage but it's not so far.
