Judge Adler was the mediator at a complex, multi-plaintiff case against the U.S. Government that involved multiple deaths and injuries. He was incredible at keeping everyone's eyes on the ball and it settled late into the night. Truly remarkable work on his part. I am a structured settlement consultant and have never seen such a fair, balanced, even-keeled mediator.

Great Judge, works very hard, and understands issues. I have had great success getting cases resolved with his assistance during an ENE.

He is a fair, intelligent judge. However, during ENE's he can get somewhat out of hand. During one ENE, he nearly lost it when we refused to accept the defendant's offer. I'm not saying that he's a bad judge, because he's not, but he can get a little too emotional during the ENE.

He's a smart guy and affable. However, in two separate settlement conferences with him, he about came unglued when we would not accede to what he felt was a reasonable settlement demand. He was so emotional that I thought to myself, "Wow, this is borderline abuse." I'm a person with pretty thick skin and even I did not like his attitude during settlement. Having said that, both cases settled. He's good at settlement, but you will pay the price getting through it.

Biggest brain in the Southern District. A very kind person, too, despite being a rabid Duke basketball fan. I agree with the earlier posting: should be elevated. Having been a partner at Milberg Weiss doesn't help and probably means he's as high as he's going to get in third branch.

Superb in every respect. Should be elevated.

Magistrate Adler handled a early neutral evaluation in our case and worked very hard on the matter and was able to get it resolved and even skipped his lunch appointment to help and then he followed up a few weeks later to make sure we got a good settlement agreement documenting it - he really gets it and understands a magistrate's role. He also has a very good attitude and is friendly and personable (for a judge).

Although one of the newer judges, is one of the best in the district. Understands complex litigation and leverage points in settlement negotiations. Thorough understanding of discovery rules. Excellent commonsensical approach.
