I was his career law clerk from 1992-97. I am informed that his "alter ego" (yes, that's what RLN calls him) career law clerk now runs the chambers and his clerks have almost no interaction with him, while the judge works from home. I am not even really convinced how much of his own work he is doing. I do know his career law clerk can forge his signature perfectly, because our tenures overlapped twice. At bottom, I think RLN is in many ways the same as his colleagues on the federal bench: as good or bad as his crop of law clerks in any given year.
