I'm shocked at all the political comments. From what I read, the judge applied the law in Manafort and applied the more modern, post-Booker approach to sentencing. Gosh, our system is supposed to make the government prove its case according to the law and facts, folks, regardless of popularity. Judge Ellis is always well-prepared, knows the law, and has a subtle snarky sense of humor. Yes, he can be cranky, but mostly with lawyers who themselves aren't courteous.

I'm going into this with an open mind. I prefer a judge who is quick witted, to the point, and loves the law yet somehow managed to inject humor. I may lose or I may win. Which ever way the side of the scales of justice tilt; I'm ok with it because of this judge's proven committment, intelligence and zero tolerance for BS. Just read through all his cases. I get some are pissed and feel they should have won. But better to be better prepared than slander a Former LT in the Navy, and a really good judge. Let the chips fall where they may. Do your best when its your turn to swing at bat. And keep things moving. Everyones entitled to an opinion. They're not all good ones. But if Im going to lose; at least I know Ive got a smart judge who will be fair and decisive.

I recently appeared in front of Judge Ellis. I lost issues I should have lost, and won issues I should have won. There's a lot of harsh words below -- a lot based in politics, rather than Judge Ellis' actual character.

All I am saying is that he was flawless on the issues in the one case I had before him.

He is the perfect example of why we need a constitutional amendment setting term limits for judges. He is nasty and intellectually dishonest. My adversary literally lied to him 26 times. The last ten caused them to win summary judgment. We pointed this out to Ellis and he ignored us.s35R

If he only knew how foolish he looks when he tries to be the smartest guy in the room.

A disgrace when it comes to knowing the Law. Judge Elliott proves why lifetime appointments are a mistake. Most of the time he fails to grasp the basics.

A nuclear disaster. We lost the case because the other side literally lied to the court 26 times in four motions. On the only motion where we had the chance to address the lies, the court deferred decision. On the decision that ultimately decided the case, the court read the other side's lies and never read our opposition. We pointed this out in a motion for reconsideration and the court denied the motion without addressing the lies. We should have changed our client's name to Manafort.

Judge Ellis bias towards Manafort is clearly explained in an earlier case (USA vs Oleksii Deinega) when Judge Ellis expressed a similar connection during a court hearing on 10/27/2017 with the defendant as Judge Ellis' mother was also from the Soviet Union. Oleksii Deinega also received a lighter sentence.

Instead of being petty Judge Ellis should take a look at how president Trump is tampering with the jury and interfering in a trial. I'm sure this is a crime yet the Judge is doing nothing. This country exists only because of Constitution and rule of law - the special Counsel has stomped it and ground it into the dirt for too long. I am proud that Judge Ellis is standing up for Lady Justice by seeing the abuses that have been taken place. I was a Democrat, and have been a Democratic candidate for office. I have resigned from the the Democratic party and am ashamed for having been associated with it. It has lost its way totally and completely, resorting to abuse of power to try to remain in power. As far as I am concerned, the appointment of the Special Counsel in the manner it was is one of the biggest embarrassments in American jurisprudence. My former Democrat colleagues who have been a part of this fiasco should be remember the adage, 'those who live by the sword shall die by the sword' as it appears its sharp edge has turned and they have set the precedence to have it visited upon them ten-fold.

Based on what this Judge did in court today and the way in which he became adversarial with the prosecution team was on more of a personal note than proper and reasonable adjudication while in a court setting. It is my firm belief the Federal Judge T.S. Eliis lll should RECUSE himself from any further federal legal proceeding as it's clear he has a bias toward the Special US Prosecutor Office along political lines and has miserably failed in show his ability to provide impartial evaluation in this or any other future pretrial hearings. If he cannot enforce the spirit and proper respect of the rule of law in a court room setting. Nor show proper court decorum while presiding on the bench. Then it's vehemently clear that he needs to step down and let another Judge proceed.

Ill-informed as to what constitutes historically documented non-vanilla sexuality. Aware of *Lawrence* but ruled that it does not affirm a fundamental liberty of choice in consensual sexual conduct (Doe v. Rector & Visitors of George Mason Univ.), saying that BDSM lacks a history -- a parochial and ignorant misstatement of the actual precedent for such conduct. Of course, plaintiff misbehaved badly according to the standards of the BDSM community but deciding which party to a dispute is right and then constructing a reason for doing so ex post facto, while long accepted practice in rabbinical courts, seems wonky jurisprudence in a secular state. That his argument in Doe rests substantially on his citation of a Scalia dissent renders it particularly odious. Doe may have been a bad hat who egregiously violated the culture of his school, but he was entitled to due process all the same, and Judge Ellis, in gratuitously injecting his ill-informed fantasies about BDSM into the proceedings, seems to have indulged in the very sort of judicial activism" his fellow right-of-center jurists are do fond of decrying in their liberal colleagues, even as he overlooked possible lines of argument that might have produced a just remedy without resorting to establishing flawed precedent that will only have to be repaired later. Granted, there must always be someone who is the smartest man in the room unless one has a room entirely filled with clones; but if so, one must expect that man to have done his homework, which Judge Ellis clearly failed to do here. Perhaps it is time for him to collect his gold watch and go fly his beloved aeroplanes instead.

When Friday motion day comes in his courtroom, it is obvious that Judge Ellis is the smartest man in the room. Unfortunately, he will frequently make it plain that he knows he's the smartest man in the room, and act accordingly. Few judges have his encyclopedic knowledge of case law, and fewer still will show his level of familiarity with the pleadings you submit to him - so you can't usually slip a fast one by him. The fact that he is so very bright and quick, however, can sometimes be a drawback when he mercilessly interrogates one of our less-skilled litigating brethren. I have found him to be relatively even-handed when dealing with private litigants, but when the government is involved he shows a definite pro-government inclination. This is one judge you want to avoid angering, because his temper can sometimes be volcanic. However, he seems to not hold a permanent grudge if you set him off, assuming that you show a respectful level of groveling.
