She’s a horrible example of a member of the judiciary. She’s lacking in intelligence and morality. Her stupidity is obvious in her rulings that fly in the face of the law and even require a violation of certain protections and privileges. The majority of her rulings can only be described as tyrannical. She’s vindictive and openly hostile towards certain members of the bar, especially if those members of the bar have been adversaries of a certain married male member of the bar with whom she has a close personal friendship. How she ever passed the vetting necessary to be a federal judge is beyond imagination. She is the reason that federal judges should be subject to removal with greater ease than currently exists, and she is the reason that motions for recusal should be decided by someone other than the judge who is the subject of the motion. She disgusts me and is the reason the legal profession has lost public confidence.

Form over substance. Prosector from the bench. If there is any soft spot in her heart it's for kids.

Judge Alvarez is one of the worst judges I have ever delt with. She didn't even see my husbands case or take the time to read the bond letter I prepared for him. She just relunctly denied him any bond or any kind of revised release. Awful just awful.

Judge Alvarez is unfortunately not very intelligent. She often does not understand the law involved in her own rulings. What is worse is that she doesn't seem to care. She is a an overtly political and activist judge. She believes the jurors in her court are stupid and would rather they not be involved in a case. Her mission is to rule in favor of corporate interests regardless of how obviously wrong she is. Her rulings had the company's own lawyers shaking their heads in disbelief. In more than 10 years trying cases in front of judges all over this great state, I have never come across a worse judge.

This judge is not bright. She is not flexible on scheduling at all. She favors the government from indictment to sentencing. Do not ask for leave to file a document unless you can write a few pages about why you missed the deadline. Sentencing objections are a mere formality as she is going to deny them all anyways.

Hardly an intellectual giant. Her predecessor was a great Judge. Accounts I am receiving accounts is that she hammered all of the Laredo lawyers that went in front of her.

I have been doing civil litigation in The southern District of Texas for 31 years. Whomever nominated this Judge for the Federal Bench made a Godawful mistake. She was confronted with an application for a preliminary injuction and ignored the federal rule and federal statute requiring her to advance this case on the Civil Docket. This judge struck a dispositive motion for being 21 minutes late based upon her"opinion" about a lawyer's reputation filing timely. This judge wants form over substance. The reason for this is obvious. She is completely incompetent and cannot understand the principles or the concepts that she is called upon to decide. She condemned the entire Bar of Laredo for their supposed lack of competence which artifice she uses to mask her own. Her decisions are completely result oriented. She chooses a winner at the onset of the case and reasons-rather poorly- her way to why the unfortunate litigant should be denied his/her day in court. This judge is no intellectual giant. She is despised by the members of the Laredo Bar personally and professionally. Sympathies to the Valley Practitioners who are stuck with her.

Like the other judges in Laredo Division-this one is completely overwhelmed with her criminal Docket. She is a hard taskmaster on her Magistrate Judges and on counsel in civil cases. Don't expect extensions or continuances-even short one's from this Judge or her magistrate. She is a stickler for form. If your signature block in incorrect-she will sanction you. This judge has a heart of stone-that pumps ice water through her veins and arteries. I tried a civil case befor her and she seemed to reign me in with a jury-just my opinion. I dread having to try another case in front of this one.
