I was so terrified to take my ex to court again. The last time we were in court was a decade ago, and on paper he looked good (income, fiancee, house) and i looked bad (young, several children, and a job at Frys). I thought that what should have mattered was that I was always home, always providing for my children, and that my ex wanted nothing to do with my daughter, never paid support, never saw her, etc. When the state started taking support, my ex got emergency temporary custody, based on a lie, which i proved was a lie, but all the judge at the time saw was a six-figure income. My ex didn't even know my daughters age. Well, good job, judge from 2003 -- the day you gave him primary custody he handed her to me and never provided for her, but would threaten to take her when I wouldn't do what he wanted, or if I asked him not to claim her on his taxes. And a big "thank you," Judge McMurdie, for seeing past my lack of money and seeing my wholehearted love for and total devotion to my children. Since having sole custody she's been able to go to a regular doctor, attend counseling that my ex had denied her, and is finally starting to heal and develop friendships with others and a love for herself.
