The judge may handle matters well, but everything else about the courtroom erases whatever good she might do.

How this courtroom is not in the bottom ten, I don’t know. It is the worst place of any courtroom I have been in. I thought court staff was supposed to treat the public with respect. They should have training. No one is treated well here. Even the jurors were shaking their heads at their treatment. Who is in charge? This place is ridiculous. I hated being in there and hope to never go back again. They deserve zero stars. That clerk is a b-ully. She was even mean to the courtroom assistant. The judge does absolutely nothing. This is not a normal place, and these are not normal people.

Comments:
I had to be in this courtroom recently and the clerk and the assistant clerk are still so rude that it boggles the mind that tax-paid servants -- that's really what they are -- are so profoundly rude to the attorneys and the other staff that floats in there to help. They must have miserable home lives to be this mean at their public jobs.

No understanding of civil litigation. Rude. Defense oriented. 170.6 if you have the chance. Does not know statutes.

The clerk causes more problems than she solves. She repeatedly talks over the judge and the attorneys causing confusion with everybody. Her wanting to stop and lecture the courtroom and throw her weight around meant it took abt 45 minutes to check everybody in. She continued this behavior even after the judge took the bench. She seems to think she is a great, knowledgeable clerk but she caused confusion and problems with nearly every case I saw this morning. She needs to chill. DON'T TALK OVER COUNSEL. DONT TALK OVER THE JUDGE.

I have no opinion on Judge Martin other than she is polite and speaks so that people understand her. This review is about her self centered clerk [redacted by Ed.] who creates too much noise by talking, typing, laughing during proceedings. It's a shame that there is no robing room for clerks since they deal with the public more than the judges do on a daily basis. Be prepared to be talked to like a child by this clerk. Very disappointed tax dollars pay this woman at the LASC or the DMV.

I am halfway through a case featuring Judge Martin as the assigned judge. So far, she has known more about the case than any of the attorneys, including myself. She has received some criticism now and then from litigants, but this may be because she takes the right position. As airmen said during World War II, you know you are on the mark when you receive a great deal of flak.

Comments:
Horrible court staff. Takes 30 minutes to check in because the clerk repeatedly chides and abuses counsel. Judge Martin is not well versed in civil law and should be in a criminal court. She is blissfully ignorant of corporate law and ADR processes and takes it personally when you need more time for an arbitrator to rule. Not necessarily a 170.6, but in need of major spoon feeding on all but the simplest civil matters.

Clearly, a horrible, elitist and racist person and a worse judge. You will find her angry and demeaning, unless you're a rich white member of corporate america who might contribute to her election. She would have once been considered a taint on the Courts. Her staff reflects her mindset.

If you have a winning, but very complex legal

be before.

Shocked by the negative reviews. One of the most fair and accommodating judges in LA county. A rarity for Stanley Mosk.

Lazy and bad tempered. I have no idea why she accepted the position if she does not want to do the job. Will take away your right to jury trial if she can figure out a way to do it, even if there is no prejudice. Just wants to reduce her docket in any way possible. Angry

She took over a case in Department 16 after Judge Miller retired. The case was a 3-week jury trial. Her voir dire of the jurors took over 2 days, and could have been done in less than a day. Other than that, she was courteous, appeared to have read the papers and rule quickly and consistently. She was very good on jury instructions. She ruled against me more than for me, and cost my clients some money from the jury, but she tried to be fair and even handed.

Her court staff, on the other hand, was very abusive, especially when she wasn't on the bench. But she had allowed them the leeway to be abusive to counsel and it continued even during trial. They were the most out of control clerk and bailiff I have ever seen in my almost 50 years of civil practice.

Nevertheless, you can do a lot worse at Stanley Mosk. So put up with the crap from the staff and stick with her. Do you homework, get your papers in on time, follow the rules, and you'll do well.

I have rarely in my life been in the presence of such rude and angry people as one will now encounter in Dept. 16 at Stanley Mosk court. The staff and the Court are should not be permitted to work in a courtroom nor in any realm of public service in this state. They do not possess the requisite temperments, nor do they have any desire to serve the public They are despicable. They were grumpy the entire first few days until finally I caught them alone, laughing and poking fun at the litigants and their counsel. Dare not challenge the Court or her staff or even question them in any way. The clerk will get in your face and shake her finger and say stupid things. You will be met with anger and furiosity beyond belief. The Court is no better. She is passive aggressive to an extreme. She will say off the wall things. 170.6 her. Don't wait.

This is one of those judges that should not be on the bench. It is that simple. It is as if she finally got some power in her life and wants to use it and abuse it. Her rule on court call is that if you are not checked in by 8:55, you cannot appear. You just have to hang up and call back at 2:00 to see what happened at your hearing. She won't even allow an explanation. If you don't file a CMC statement, even if you were not served with the complaint in time to file a timely one, she won't listen to you at the CMC - literally, she cuts you off and ends the hearing.

Understand that she is a mean leftist. 170.6 immediately. Stanley Mosk is a rotting cesspool of mean lawyers and judges. The system has failed and Calif. is on a huge rapid decline. The dirty rotten lawyers got what they desired, a lousy pathetic job and a cardiac assault waiting to happen.
