Judge Carey is always even-handed in his courtroom. He has a calm demeanor but runs a tight ship in the courtroom, which is increasingly rare of late.
In my experience he is fair with pro se litigants, giving them some leeway that is to be expected, but at the same time enforcing the rules of evidence and making sure nothing devolves into a free-for-all.
Judge Carey is not without compassion in his rulings, but his rulings are based in the law and facts, not emotion.

I was very pleased with the result. He saw thru the lies in testimony and ruled correctly...One of the few judges in Harford County that was not a former ASA and actually knows what he is doing.

I just heard this judge give an oral decision from the bench that clearly laid out why the litigant was being attacked by his wife, but then ordered a protective order. I also heard him shut down and refuse to hear the respondent's argument about how there was no fear, but then allow the petitioner's appointed lawyer go on about fear. The case following this had two parties that started with opening comments that then devolved into testimony being given during the openings. I wish Harford County judges would just call balls and strikes and be knowledgeable on the law. That's why this jurisdiction is known as a legal backwater.
