I had one case before Judge Karalunas and was impressed by her intelligence, professionalism, and her willingness to assist litigants during settlement negotiations. I was also very impressed by the manner in which she dealt with an ethical issue that arose. I was less impressed by her handling of scheduling issues. She was completely inflexible with deadlines; and used her “discretion” to trifurcate a trial to increase costs to force a settlement. It seemed her primary goal was avoiding a trial. All in all, however, a good judge.

I have appeared several times before this judge. I recently was involved in a complex medical malpractice case and represented the plaintiff's estate. She was very even-handed and her pre-trial rulings were well-reasoned and fair. She has an excellent temperament and because she practiced as a real lawyer, she is sensitive to the lawyers. An excellent jurist.
