Ironic I got notice of his retirement on Thanksgiving. Just adds one more thing to my long list of things to be grateful for. My case was transferred to a sane judge, but I always worried about those poor people who still fell under his Napoleonic rule. Helps to believe in Karma when dealing with him.

I am so happy that this gigantic Anus is retiring. I'm not sure if he wasn't hugged enough as a child or if he ate paint chips or if he woke up one morning and realized that he resembled Gargamel from the smurfs but good riddance to this poor excuse for a judge.

Judge Lotto displays a poor temperament from the bench. At times he conducts himself like a lunatic. His rulings at times are disingenuous; that is, he employs his smarts to skew arguments and draft bad decisions. His toughness on crime is respected, but he goes way overboard and judges like a radical,

This nut case apparently has been off the chain from the beginning. He has no regard for the law and is a complete ego maniac. He ignores even his own clerks. On his behalf, he does seem to be equally disrespectful of everyone: attorneys, DA, plantiffs, defendants, clerks. I had a 30 day license suspension which is still not resolved, 5 months later. I have no criminal history. I have been in his court room 5 or 6 times, and have yet to hear any case get settled - every case is continued. Ignores the law on a regular basis. Dropped one charge against me, and initiated a new one, suspending my license again that he had already suspended 4 months ago. Ignored everyone who tried to tell him the case was past the 90 day deadline. Has no interest in or regard for treatment, refusing to allow hardship driving priveleges for AA meetings or my therapist. The man is certifiable, dangerous and a complete disaster in the court room. He loves telling everyone how he has been there for 23 years, and yet didn't know what should and should not show up on my tox screen. He truly makes it up as he goes along. Attorneys and court clerks roll their eyes and shrug their shoulders constantly after his comments and while he is supposedly reading cases. During my case which should have been simple and straightforward, he constantly has to leave the bench to retreat under his rock to supposedly study the law. After 23 years of doing this job, he should have developed the skills to hear and resolve a simple DWI case. Apparently he is too busy trying to humiliate others which doesn't leave him much time for integrating any new legal concepts into his warped, simple mind. Someone told me once that the attorneys that have to be come judges are the ones who could not make a living in a legal practice because they were the worst students in law school. Otherwise they would not have to accept the relatively low salary of a judge. Lotto definitely seems to support this theory. In addition to being hypocritic and maniacal, Lott's ego runs rampant in his court room kingdom. My AA sponsor told me to pray for him. So I said, "How is this for a prayer?" "May a load or bricks fall on the little pr..k!!"
God help anyone, attorney or defendant or even DA, who gets this nut case as a judge.

This is a disgrace of a judge and a human being. He is judgmental without being based on the facts, intimidating, self-righteous, smug, self-serving, and overall nasty and jealous of others, and uses intimidation and fear of jail to assert his dominance over defendants.

This judge is a hack, a total and complete disgrace to the justice system. How he has been allowed to sit in any courtroom is obviously through pro-D.A., utter and complete bias. He has contempt for everyone and has personal vendettas. There is no justice with this judge, and he should be impeached. He thinks the public is not onto him and believes he has the supreme power.

This judge makes his determination based on a personal vendetta.My son was falsely accused of violating an order of protection (which was all lies) and the person was not punished for this. My son had a witness to the incident. It was never mentioned. Result was overnight in Riverhead Jail and $25,000 cash bail.He punished my son because he had a record 20 years ago. Imagine if this nut wew a rehab.c counselor. I heard somenof the other judes consider him a nut job.

Any attorney, either prosecutor or defense lawyer, who complains about this judge being disrespectful or rude only gets what they deserve, as they are likely incompetent or have done something disrespectful themselves. While he may have a temper, it only shows for those attorneys who are inadequate at their job or who try to take advantage of the legal system. If you are a reputable attorney, who does what he or she needs to do and are supposed to do, he is incredibly reasonable and fair. He may be harsh on certain repeat defendants, but he undoubtedly runs a fair court room and always ensures a fair trial for the defendant. Putting this aside, he is by far one of the most experienced and knowledgeable judges on all of Long Island. What a few people say on a website such as this do not define or truly explain who this judge is.

While it's true that he'd tough on people who consciously break the law, he won't let the D.A.'s office just have their way with a defendant. He keeps everyone in check and keeps the calendar moving fast. His bark is worse than his bite, and, while "no nonsense", he can be very pleasant and reasonable.

Represents everything that is wrong with an entrenched judiciary that is too often the product of patronage rather than merit. This guy is a first class hack that crawled his way up the Suffolk County Republican machine of the 1980s & 90s. Tyrannical and Napoleonic, he makes no effort to hide his contempt for the lawyers that practice before him, all the while treating defendant's presumption of innocence as little more than a punch line. His demeanor (and intellect) make him better suited to sit at a window at the local DMV rather than on a District Court bench.

Has the temperament of a rabid animal. Do not go into his courtroom with a driving while intoxicated case or a driving with a suspended license charge. Seems to actually get pleasure out of torturing defendants.
