This judge retired way too late, handled my custody case for 9 out of what has turned into almost 11 years. I have not had a weekend with my now teenage son in over 3 years. Judge Cooper did not ask to meet him until two days before retiring. He wanted an in-camera after being told by the AFC that the mother puts him on speakerphone and “coaches” the child,and that the child “could not tell the truth when the mother was near”- the judge waited 2 months to set it up. The lawyer went to pick him up and the mother never brought my son down. TEven after violating court orders AGAIN, he did nothing!
The mother is a pathological liar and sociopath. Cooper yelled the next day on the Zoom hearing, but still gave me limited visitation and provided a final fuck you to all. The AFC no longer wanted to advocate as she now figured out the mothers agenda and Cooper let her off. 2 years later, we are no farther ahead and the brainwashing and alienation has firmly taken root. Cooper was almost comedically unprofessional annd was known by the lawyers to like to “hear himself talk” and gave her multiple warnings, even after she had made multiple false child abuse reports. One wonders how many other children’s and parents lives he ruined while on the bench. His drama belonged on television, not making decisions that are detrimental to innocent victims. As far as I am concerned he ended his career in shame, but had such a huge ego he didn’t even know it.

As you can see by the insane cult religious fanatic post below Judge Cooper can easily tell who should not be near kids at all and judging by that fanatical post he sure made the right decision! Judge is far from racist I am a black man and I was treated fairly because I am not a freak wishing hell and death on others and I am not a dead beat dad either. Sad about his retirement he saved SO many kids from DEADBEAT dads which in turn may have saved their lives. he could spot a psychopath immeidaltey which sure worked in my favor in getting custody of my two children against an ex who tried to malign my character. All I can say is - thank GOD he is retiring. He didn’t care 3 years ago and now everyone has said he could not care less now that he is leaving the bench. He doesn’t read anything. 100s of thousands of dollars spent trying to protect my kids and he just wants to accuse everyone of wanting to fight and enjoying being in court. Delusional.

This judge is a disgrace to the court system. He is a performer and has no interest in litigants. That could work on Court TV with criminals, but not with real life families. The ten-star ratings below are not credible and are all written in the same style. This means that the same person posted them. Attorneys who represent women love him because he is biased against men. When I told my attorney who the judge was, reaction was "oh dear". When I pressed, reaction was "look him up on the internet". Good advice. Look him up on the internet. An utter disgrace.

They are all from the same sick sick man with the initials of N.M. and he has created over 100 fake profiles to give bad reviews to a case he lost with an ex wife who has custody of their kids. "written with a healthy state of mind" made me laugh as this man tried to malign my character in court by lying using slander and libel which the smart judge saw right through. if you google him he has court info about him calling him conniving, mentally ill and out for revenge against his ex wife who he wont give a dime to and that is why he is in court with Cooper. This man also snuck out of town in the middle of the night the day before he was about to do possibly 7 months in jail for child support he has not paid in years now. If you need proof this is N.M leaving the same untrue comments over and over just check out his spelling and grammar. "viola lating" Lol. If that non sensical paragraph was written calmly with all those CAPS and a healthy state of mind I thank the wonderful Judge Cooper once again for seeing though my exes lies. NY Supreme Court Justice Matthew Cooper. You will see happy litigants rate him highly, probably all women, and unhappy ones rate him low.

Most of his positive comments are fake.
Justice Cooper has no problem viola ting the law or accepting, in-directly, favors or payments for his judicial bias. He lies with no remorse, he puts others people jobs - like court reporters - in jeopardy with no remorse.
Most attorneys are afraid of him because he will bias the Attorney if they appear before him in future cases.
Justice Cooper thinks he's a "hot shot" - an arrogant, narsocisstic, power hungry judge that has been put in a place of power where he does not deserve to be - research his history - how he was appointed - you will see the records are sealed to cover up his past.
His favorite remedy is to strong arm litigants he is bias against - he baits them into contempt or looking unreasonable, when, in fact, it is Hot Shot Cooper that is unreasonable.

Cooper should be prosecuted for treason against the US Constitution

What organization would the wise guys of the Democratic party turn to in order to deal with sensitive matters of family law and child custody? Why the Teamsters Local 237 of course. Though in all fairness Cooper had a failed year as an Adjunct professor at CUNY in between.

He never should have been appointed into this position. He destroys to many peoples and kids lives. He better should have lived during the old times of medieval inquisition. There it was normal to have this restricted view to the world. Judge Matthew Cooper was a Housing Court Guardian for some time, and also a lawyer for the Teamsters. He has no experience with or knowledge of matrimonial law.

His famous quote is: "I don't want to be known as the judge who destroyed a Picasso." (This was from a recent case involving the removal of a painting from a public space. Judge Cooper sided with doing nothing; this is a statement of his rationale.)

He is biased, lazy, and unable to control his rude and demoralized staff, all the while letting his friends run his court around him.

I have been before many judges as a litigator, and Judge Cooper is one of the best, in my opinion. His decisions make sense and are based upon his knowledge of and respect for the law. Matthew Cooper is not someone you would want on the bench at your case. The reasons are simple. He hold grudges, and if he feels personally slighted he will harbor deep resentment towards that party , and that will bias the outcome of the case. He will also ignore the misdeeds of Law Guardians appointed by him to a case, as they have an 'inside agreement' almost an old school club that excuses lazy work, or lack thereof.

His bias against men is obvious. You are already tried, convicted and hanged from a tall tree if you're a man in his court.
Perhaps, dealing with nasty post divorce judgment cases has clouded this man's ability to be an impartial justice, in which case he should do the honorable thing and resign.
His demeanor is undignified, berates litigants in his loss of self-control outbursts without even hearing both sides, and does not treat everyone with the dignity, respect, patience, and consideration they deserve.
This is not an impartial court judge as he should be, and his legal acumen is subpar.
Does not conduct the courtroom in a neutral manner and does not treat all parties fairly.
Does not adequately promote compromise, settlement, and alternative dispute resolution amongst the parties.
This judge should be reported to the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct and should be removed from the bench.
He does a diservice to all honorable judges and causes all participants, litigants and attorneys, to lose faith in the justice system. That can have horrible after-effects on society as a whole.
It's a shame that the process exists to promote such individuals to the crucial position of a justice.
Professionalism and judicial temperament are absent in this court.

He is very lazy . He doesn't read motions before he takes the bench . It is very clear he doesn't want to be bothered , he just wants your case to be off his calendar . He is also very short tempered and at times rude . He is very closed minded and get very defensive if you point out a mistake he has made , or something he has overlooked . This judge is lazy and does not read any documents. He puts his own interest in the foreground. He delays the decisions to a point where he hopes that the litigants give up and settle. So from his point of view it makes sense to not read any document. So if you come in front of this judge, give up, you will not experience something like justice. Save your time and your money. He can only be taken as a bad example how a judge shouldn't be. He drives people who are seeking for help into desparation. I guess he admires Judge Strauss, who drove a woman into a situation, where she finally killed her ex husband.

Prejudice in favor of big law firms and attorneys and their clients. No respect for the unconnected person. Has been known to shake his finger at mothers of children and admonish them inappropriately in an off the cuff manner. He should be ashamed of himself. He should have better judgement.

Be careful of this judge. Bias against women. Favorable to big well connected attorneys and their clients. Too off the cuff. Does not follow his cases well enough. Does not keep up with changes. Not good with kids in pre and post divorce proceedings.
