Crap. Simple and plain. Has no understanding of anything that is not an MVA or PI case. Just wants to push cases out of his part as fast as he can. So, be on time. I had a business dissolution he had no clue what it was about.

Yes, like all the comments say, a defense guy. Mediocre temperament. Also, he's in TAP and assigns judges. They have no respect for him. I've been a ping pong ball when judges say "no". Running around the courthouse for a judge. His law secretary Bill Riccio is also just as bad. No use for these two.

An asset to the bench! Will help you when you are in a jam (e.g., need time, must get it settled, other side being unreasonable). Earn his respect and he lets you do the lawyering at trial without interfering with your case. But will blast you if you act the fool. I am plaintiff-only and I get along great with him.

Comments:
Judge Cozzens is a pro defendant's judge. Period. He was a partner in a defense year for many years before he took the bench. His philosophy, mentality and attitude is pro defendant. Even in major injury cases with liability granted his evaluations are way below any value range. He's a nice guy, but just know his perspective.

Comments:
This Judge is very pro-defendant and seems to always find a way to rule against the plaintiff.

I completely agree with the other two posters.

Judge Cozzens is amazing, he is fair, smart and reasonable. he saw right through the Plaintiff's fraudulent attorney.

Other judges should learn from Judge Cozzens!

I can't say enough good about the judge. Fair, reasonable, and does a great job settling cases. He is truly an asset to Nassau and I hope he's on the bench another 20 years - or goes to NAM/JAMS as a mediator.

Judge Cozzens is one of the best judges in Nassau. He always shows respect for the lawyers who appear before him, and I believe he (and Lenny) run the TAP part well. Always tries hard to help settle cases. Fair, reasonable, and a good guy - notwithstanding his tiny pony tail.
