Our case was assigned to a Supreme Court Judge who had zero understanding of the subject area and issued one bad decision after another, unnecessarily prolonging a case and costing the parties massive attorneys fees for no reason.

By the time we got on the default/inquest calendar and sent out to Judge Allman as our Special Referee, I was not optimistic.

He was surprisingly well-versed in the subject matter (far more than our previous assigned IAS Judge) and was able to stay focused on resolving the case.

I disagreed with several of his rulings but did so respectfully and he accepted my obvious disagreement with an excellent judicial temperament. During the course of any disagreements with him, I never lost respect for him and actually found him congenial and pleasant.

Ultimately, he was able to do what our previous Judge never even attempted: facilitate a settlement. He also went above and beyond to prepare and assist in the preparation of the settlement agreements/orders.

He worked tirelessly on our case and his efforts were appreciated (I presume) by all involved.

He is very arrogant and rude. If he does not like your case, your client, or you, he will use every opportunity to punish your client. He used to be a Judge, however, after stepping off the bench and throttling a defense attorney in criminal court, on March 23, 2005 he was censured, and he was ultimately demoted to a JHO. He often screams and yells at witnesses or counsel and often has a low tolerance for objections, making comments such as you may object but you may not respond. (Middling attempts at disallowing a record).

This judge is very fair and even-handed. He explains everything. He really works with the lawyers and parties to explain how the decision is being made, and the facts upon which it is based. He is intelligent and humorous, and it is a pleasure to appear in front of him. Both sides gave him a standing ovation at settlement. He is a great judge! You are lucky if you get him.

Very smart man. A bit tough to deal with sometimes. Has to have the last word. Knows the law though and is the first to tell you so. I liked working with him even if he did "consult" his laptop on EVERY case!
