I am in front of Judge Madden pro se,
in an Article 78 proceeding against city agencies and the building owner of my loft dwelling.
We have had an Interim Order, that worked out well for me, but no final decision has come down.
I must say this, with this Judge, if she rules against me, I will take that as indicating that I screwed up somewhere.
This is maybe judge #15 for me, and this Judge takes her job seriously and I know shere will be fair, either way this goes

For sale, but worst of all, only to those in a position to advance her career or personal interests. She demonstrates zero regard for the law, doesn't even enforce her own ruling (issued 7 times in writing at a cost of hundreds of thousands of dollars), while incurring hundreds of thousands of dollars in "court mandated settlement conferences " (which the only party paying is barred from even observing, conducted in the absence of discovery), while all the while being sponsored for appointment to a higher court by the defendants she is clearly protecting!

Comments:
Solid, hard-working, decent judge. Not outstanding, but the bench would be greatly improved if its members all reached this level.

Rating:8.4
Comments:
Very good judge, although her court room can take several hours to get through the calendar.

Disagree with a prior rating about settling cases. On a very complex property damage case, Madden met repeatedly with the parties, even well into the night to get a settlement.

She sometimes does her own research on motions and one time relied upon her own legal research that was actually not on point.

Civil Litigation - Private

Comments:
Judge Madden is a lovely person, with a pleasant temperament, but she does not manage cases well. She tends to take hours to get through motion calendars, and although she tries hard to understand the issues, she just misses. She does not enforce discovery deadlines, and she has a tendency to change her mind a lot. One very bad tendency she has is to give in to the attorney who gets the last word in, which only encourages bullying in her courtroom and punishes courteous attorneys. She does try, but she is not very effective in trying to settle cases. When she does, the numbers she recommends usually favor plaintiffs quite a bit.
