This is a horrible judge. Wouldn't be surprised if the citizens of his county showed up at the courthouse with pitchforks and tar and feathers someday.

Comment # 643 is a bunch of bull hockey! it must have been posted by Bartheld or one of his toadies. I cannot count the number of jury terms that he has tried ZERO cases with a full docket of cases that need trying!

He is constantly looking for reasons to continue a case. He's never seen a continuance he doesn't like.

"Move cases along"?? "Give people their day in court"?? Total garbage! He continues EVERYTHING he can. if he can't he assigns it to another judge (usually Pratt from McIntosh County) by finding "conflicts". Litigants are SUFFERING under from not getting their day in Court.

He is so lazy (or elitist) that he cannot lower himself to take pleas on trailing misdemeanors, requiring the attorney and the client to come back a second time before another judge to complete their plea!!

That post would be funny were it not for the fact that it is such nonsense.

As I understand it, his judge wasn't really in private practice all THAT long, and unfortunately, it doesn't seem that he learned as much as he should have about moving cases along and giving people their day in court. If he did learn, he immediately forgot about it when he became District Judge.

He obviously is not knowledgeable enough about the law to make a good living in private practice.

He continues case after case over the objection of the attorneys (if they have feel they won't suffer retribution). Some attorneys have nearly starved to death (as have their clients) waiting to get a case resolved with this judge!

He is one of our better judges in Oklahoma...being in private practice before taking the bench, he has a unique perspective to the difficulties facing attorneys in getting a case to trial...he is always happy to move cases along to trial and give people their day in court...his even temperment is a great calm in the storm of litigation.

Whether this Judge is "even-handed" or not depends entirely on who the parties are and who their attorneys are. If he feels he will garner favor and political support by ruling in favor of one party or attorney, he will come down on that side.
To make matters worse, it can take an interminable amount of time to find out whether one's client is going to see a mediocre outcome or whether he will receive a complete kangaroo court outcome. Bartheld has to be the laziest judge in Oklahoma. He lies to the personnel in both courthouses (Pittsburg and McIntosh counties) about where he is going to be at any given time. For instance, when he has a docket in McIntosh County, he shows up late. Then he spends about an hour passing every case he can and leaves for the day. He tells his Pittsburg County staff that he has a full day scheduled in McIntosh County. Nobody seems to know where he spends the rest of his day.
To add insult to injury, his sexual appetite is common knowledge in both counties. Everyone is aware that he had numerous affairs with Pittsburg County Courthouse personnel. He has had sexual relationships with female parties, witnesses, and attorneys even before their cases before him were resolved!
Simply put, he has and does violate every canon of the Code of Judicial Conduct. He is an embarrassment to the legal profession and to the judiciary. But the real travesty is that citizens who seek justice in his court receive just the opposite.

This "judge" should chose a different career! He is terrible. You can't get a hearing or trial. He's never seen a continuance that he didn't like. (Once, at a jury sounding, he passed a murder competency hearing for one year, but didn't try anything that jury term!) Re-assigns cases to other judges when it comes time for him to make a decision, running up everyone's fees to re-litigate everything in front of another judge. Has no inkling of how his in-actions cost the people to lose fortunes or freedom. The only thing he does do is get involved in settlements to try and avoid doing the judge thing! If it doesn't settle then its off to another judge!
