On the negative side, Judge West micromanages constantly and could do more to improve the way he handles himself in court. For example, he has a nervous tic of clearing his throat in court. Also, it is not unknown for him to rush through the courtroom after lunch because he is late getting arraignments started. He also seems to have a talent for cheesing local attorneys off by his micromanaging and his sometimes self-righteous tone on the bench. On the positive side- he does do his homework and I think he works to be careful and fair in his rulings. More importantly, I think he wants to improve things.
