Worst trial judge in over 40 years of litigation. Did not know the law, so he created it to fit his own agenda. He is very friendly and jovial, but do not be fooled by this jolly facade. You do not want him to preside over any trial!

At first Judge is jolly, joking, positive interaction with counsel. But behind that facade, he is the most biased judge I’ve appeared before in 30 years of litigation.
Pre-empt him if you can!

Ding as soon as you get this guy. He operates his courtroom on the "good old boy" system, and is willing to abjectly ignore the law in order to help out the attorneys he knows personally and sees a lot in his courtroom. Often he will just cut and paste from their motions no matter how flimsy and is supremely lazy in his orders. Courtroom is also a chaotic mess.

Judge Medel is an excellent judge: he is very well versed in the law, especially civil procedure, and decides difficult questions fairly. He obviously read the parties' briefs in our case and asked excellent questions at the hearing. He is also very jovial and clearly relishes being a judge. He is now one of my favorites.

The Second Amendment is not outdated. Most judges do not like to be overturned, but anyone with legal expertise or not can see the final outcome when it gets to SCOTUS.
Frivolous suit, likely to be tossed.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/judge-rules-synagogue-shooting-victims-can-sue-smith-and-wesson/ar-AAM49BN Yep, you are a real liberal judge. First, the second amendment allows a company like Smith and Wesson to manufacture guns and a gun shop to sell it after a person buying it goes through a background check. They may lose in your liberal court but, not in the U.S. Supreme Court

" Now that Lisa Schall finally did the world a favor and retired, Judge Medel took her place as the absolute most wretched judge in San Diego....

....I'd rather leave any case of mine up to a coin toss than let it anywhere near this dept. If you draw this judge, you better file your peremptory challenge as soon as you can get it to the courthouse. There's absolutely no chance you could draw a worse judge. Best of luck out there. .....You'll need it in this department. "

"litigant"? How many cases do you have in that courtrrom? Seems like comment came from a dumb, disgruntled lawyer, who has done the same thing to other judges on this site. Makes the same mistakes.

Now that Lisa Schall finally did the world a favor and retired, Judge Medel took her place as the absolute most wretched judge in San Diego. IMO if you likes judges who rule based on guesswork and whims and refuse to read a file then, by all means, have at it. I'd rather leave any case of mine up to a coin toss than let it anywhere near this dept.

Horrible judge. Fails to grasp most basic concepts, does not read papers, holds grudges against attorneys who disagree with him, and goes out of his way to flatter and show favoritism toward certain lawyers.

Great judge. Have not yet tried a case in front of him. But in law and motion matters he reads what is submitted. He treats both sides with respect. I look forward to being in front of him again.

Judge Medel is new to the bench and a superb, bright, thoughtful, fair judge, who explains his points clearly and engages in genuine dialogue during oral argument. My case was decided on summary judgment, but he was presiding over a jury trial in another matter, and I watched him receive a jury's verdict. He handled it exceedingly well, and is clearly a skilled trial judge who himself has extensive trial experience. I do not think you can get a better draw in SD Superior Court.
