You cannot hear or understand what he says. He speaks in mumbled soft tones that, even with a hearing aid, I could not understand. However, he is knowledgeable on the law and is extremely well informed on the facts of his cases (even the most complex litigations). His rulings are fair but it is impossible to give notice and you cannot understand 80 to 90 percent of what he says.

Judge Berle seems very tough when you first see him. Bottom line, he does not take anyone's crap. He has a kind heart and pretty intelligent. But you better not make a promise and not follow through with it. He is not a Judge you can push around. If you want that type of judge you can easily influence try Judge Fruin.

Judge Berle is an old school judge. And when I say that it means that a person that cares about your sincerity. Never lie to a judge. But never lie to this one. He cares about doing the right thing. But will absolutely not care about you if you mistate the evidence or any facts.

Yes, I tried a case in front of him. Yes, I won at jury trial. But he never once gave me a break on anything, and I had to claw and fight my way to victory.

And that's the way it should be. I just do not like judges that have a predisposition. All I want is an even handed judge.

I get a good vibe from this judge - I think he deep down really cares about justice and wants to right the wrongs of the past, even when those involve the dishonesty or mistake of other judges in his jurisdiction - he wants the person who was wronged by a bad or false judgement, to be made right and restore their property and dignity. this is a judge who is not afraid to really be about truth and justice.

Definitely an "old-school" judge, which is good if you're a competent, appropriately deferential attorney who submits excellent written work and doesn't waste the court's time with nonsense. We opposed a particularly difficult client and attorney team, and this judge was on to them from the start. They requested absurd relief and were treated accordingly.

Be unfailingly polite and respectful, understand that you are in the judge's courtroom (and not a public hall), submit and present excellent work, and you'll have no problem with this judge.
